Sarah A. Stewart account books, 1866-1874.

Account books for Magnolia Plantation, a plantation in Terrebonne Parish, La., owned by the Fort family of Bayou Sara, West Feliciana Parish, and leased by Mrs. Sarah A. Stewart. The account books contain copies of contracts with freedmen working on the plantation; records of workers' purchases of corn, castor oil, meal, meat, coffee, and various other household supplies, groceries, and dry goods; and notations about bad language, damage to property, and disrespectful behavior on the part of workers and disciplinary measures taken in response.
